This was my project for an Art & Design course. The premise was to create a piece of art that could be experienced in VR. The requirements were to create one or more textured meshes and import them into Unreal Engine.

My process began with concept development, where I brainstormed ideas and concepts that would be fun to bring into an immersive environment. I explored different workflows for creating and texturing the 3D assets, Blender and Substance Modeler for modeling, followed by Substance Painter for texturing, before importing the assets into Unreal Engine. This workflow allowed me to create detailed and well-textured models but I also experimented with going directly from Blender to Unreal creating materials (iridescent) using Blueprints. 

Due to the limited timeframe, I faced some challenges in executing my full vision for the project. While I was able to create the core elements, certain details and refinements had to be scaled back. For example, I wanted to add more intricate details to the box to give it more of a “Polly Pocket-look” and more complex interactions, but time constraints meant I had to prioritize functionality and overall composition.

This project was an invaluable learning experience, it taught me the importance of flexibility in workflow, as well as how to effectively manage my time to deliver a polished, functional piece within a tight schedule.
